Havoc Brothers are a Tamil music duo from Johor Bahru, Skudai, Malaysia. The duo is made up of two real-life siblings — Mathanamurthy, who goes by Havoc Mathan, the elder brother, and Navendramoorthy, known as Havoc Naven, the younger. Both were born and raised in JB. They formed the crew in 2008 alongside close friends, driven by one intention: to make music that actually sounded like the people around them. Music with street truth in it. Music that a Malaysian Tamil kid could hear and feel seen by.
From day one, Havoc Brothers covered every genre they felt — Melody, Pop, R&B, Rap, Old School, and Devotional. They never boxed themselves into a single sound because they never had a single kind of listener. Their fans ranged from young men riding to their rap energy to families moved by their devotional tracks. Mathan handles composition, melody, and vocal delivery. Naven brings the rap aggression, the production grit, and the street-smart energy. Together, they cover ground that most acts can't.
What built their reputation wasn't a label push or a media campaign. It was the music itself, shared through Facebook, passed on USB drives, played at Tamil family gatherings across JB and Singapore. When Kannaley Kollathey hit #1 on both THR Raaga and Minnal FM in 2013, the two biggest Tamil radio stations in Malaysia, it was the result of years of underground loyalty finally breaking through into the mainstream.
Their third studio album, Intha Vechiko, released in 2015 under PU4LYF Entertainment and distributed by Universal Music Sdn Bhd, was the first Malaysian Tamil independent rap album to receive national Universal Music distribution. Physical CDs sold out across all six distribution states. The album launched on Thaipusam day at Batu Caves — not at a press event, not at a label office, but at one of the most sacred Tamil gatherings in Malaysia. That said everything about who they are and who their audience is.
In 2024, Mathan expanded the Havoc Brothers brand into cinema — writing, directing, and starring in Kathe Ille Parthekelam, a comedy-thriller produced under their own company, Havoc Film Production, and distributed by Poketplay Films. The film opened in 40 cinema locations nationwide on 19 September 2024, grossing RM96,267 on opening day and crossing RM415,462 within four days. Havoc Brothers said of the film: "This is our pride, and we hope it opens doors for many more Malaysian talents." It marked not just a film debut but a full transition into a creative production house that owns music, film, and brand.
Today, Havoc Brothers operate under Havoc Records Label, their own independent music imprint. Mathan's Instagram following exceeds 352,000. Their combined Spotify monthly listeners run in the hundreds of thousands. Their name has been heard in Kollywood films, shared by Bollywood stars, and searched by Tamil fans from Chennai to London to Melbourne. Seventeen years from that first recording in Skudai — they are not just artists. They are an institution in Malaysian Tamil music.
Mathan is the voice and creative backbone of Havoc Brothers. As the elder brother, he drives the melodic and lyrical direction of their music — weaving raw emotion into every verse. His ability to switch between heartfelt singing and sharp rap delivery is what makes Havoc Brothers stand out in the Tamil independent music space. He studied Logistics & Management, and channelled all of that discipline into building one of Malaysia's most beloved independent music acts.
Naven brings the hard-hitting rap energy and modern production edge to Havoc Brothers. His verses carry a raw, urban honesty that resonates deeply with Tamil youth across Malaysia, Singapore, and beyond. Naven completed his Diploma in Medical Lab in 2014 — but his true calling was always music. Together with Mathan, he has helped shape a sound that bridges traditional Tamil sensibility with contemporary street culture.
